National Communicators Day comes around once a year. For most government communicators, it passes quietly — maybe a social media post from a professional association, maybe a mention in a team meeting. The work continues regardless.
But the response this year was different. Posts recognizing the breadth and weight of the communications role — the invisible work, the behind-the-scenes judgment calls, the being-the-steady-presence-when-everything-is-uncertain — were shared widely and reacted to with something that looked less like appreciation and more like relief.
That response is worth paying attention to. Not as a feel-good moment, but as a signal about the state of the profession.<
